TIPS & TRICKS

We want this to be your program.
If you have a TIP or TRICK you would like to pass along to other users, please e-mail us to Help Us Help You.

Below are a number of Tips and Tricks we thought you might find helpful in creating and using our activities. If you would like us to post your name along with your TIP or TRICK, let us know.
To use a language other than English
This is done in both the Advanced and Multi-Lingual Words areas, by selecting a language other than English from the pull-down menu under Step 1.
Fold-back Fact Cards with root words + suffix or prefix + root words
Enter in the root words and suffix(s)/prefix(s) that you would like to use. Create the activity. Then mix and match the cards produced.

*This will create cards that potentially have more than one correct answer, so making multiple sets to create a single deck is suggested.
Definition Cards/Concentration
A principal mentioned that she likes to see students play concentration using printed-out definition cards. The students fill in the definition, then cut the cards in half and play concentration, matching the definition with the word. *You can also do this for pictures, letters, and/or words that sound like and/or rhyme with ...
Manipulate an activity to have Missing Letters (Step 7)
1a) Choose between 4 Missing Letter options.
1b) Choose the number of Missing Letters per word.
2) Click on "Create Activity" in Step 8.
Create bigger words in an activity (Step 6)
1) Choose a larger font size.
2) Click on "Create Activity" in Step 8.
You may want to create many variations of each activity to challenge different skill levels within your class.

To create BINGO activities

  1. Enter words of your own or select from our database. BINGO works best when there are 3-5 more words than the number of squares in the BINGO game.
  2. Choose BINGO Boards, not BINGO Chips.
  3. A window asking you 'How many different Bingo Boards...' will appear. Make a numeric selection and click the "Continue" button. This window may be 'hidden' on computers with smaller screens or browsers that default to always appear on top. The easiest way to access this window is using the bar at the bottom of your screen (the one to the right of the "Start" button. This bar will list all windows currently open. Select each one until you find the 'How many...' window or cycle through all the open windows by holding down the TAB and ALT keys simultaneously.
  4. Now click the "Create Activity" button.
  5. Now create BINGO Chips for your BINGO Board by repeating the steps you just finished above, but instead of choosing BINGO Boards choose BINGO Chips.
The layout of the activities is not exactly what you want.
You can affect the font type and font size, which will sometimes affect the layout. Try experimenting to find the best results for the individual activity you are creating.
